Silver
100% of the silver used in our designs is recycled. Silver is a precious metal, and Pure silver, also called fine silver, is 99.9% pure, often stamped “.999”. Pure silver is too soft for products like jewelry. So, to make fine silver more durable, copper is added, creating sterling silver, which is 92.5% silver and 7.5% copper, often stamped “sterling” or “.925”. Our sterling silver only contains silver and copper and never contains other metals like zinc and nickel, which can irritate sensitive skin. Over time, any sterling silver jewelry exposed to air will tarnish, but this tarnish can be easily removed with a polishing cloth.
Copper - Copper is an element and a mineral known for its warm red-orange color, ductility, and malleability. Copper has been used for thousands of years for jewelry and many people find that copper jewelry relieves joint pain from arthritis. When copper is in contact with the skin, it combines with the air and oils in the skin to create a green layer of copper salts, which is harmless and will usually wash off with soap and water. Over time, copper will darken to a natural patina if exposed to air. Wearing your copper jewelry regularly is the best way to keep it from tarnishing. Otherwise, the copper patina can be removed with a polishing cloth and stored in an air-tight plastic bag to slow down tarnishing.
Brass
The brass in our designs is jeweler's brass. Jewelers brass is an alloy composed of copper and zinc and is a great color match to 14K yellow gold. Like all copper-based metals, Jeweler's brass will naturally tarnish when exposed to oxygen. Some people like the patina of tarnished brass and enjoy watching their piece slowly darken in color over time. However, if you prefer the shine of new, it is easy to do by polishing it with a polishing cloth.
